Billing Exception Summary
The Billing Exception Summary shows all unapproved billing exceptions grouped by exception type, giving you a quick overview of what needs attention before your next billing run. Unlike the exceptions view inside Unbilled Transactions, which lists every individual exception, this screen summarises them by type so you can prioritise and work through the most common issues first.
Note: If you can't see Billing Exception Summary in your Dashboard, contact support to have this feature enabled.
The Billing Exception Summary is located in the processes section of the Dashboard screen.
The summary table shows one row per exception type with:
Exception Type - the name of the configured exception (eg Spike Usage, Price Plan Missing).
Count - how many individual exceptions exist for that type.
Buildings (or your configured label) - how many distinct buildings are affected.
Product Mix - the percentage breakdown of products (eg POWER 60%, WATER 40%).
Total Amount (excl. tax) - the combined transaction amount for exceptions of that type.
Filtering
Use the Building and Billing Cycle dropdowns to narrow the list to a specific building or cycle. The table updates immediately when you change a filter.
Drilling into an exception type
Click a row in the summary table to select it, then click View — or double-click the row directly.
The detail screen opens showing every individual exception for that type, with account number, site identifier, product, days, amounts, and billing cycle.
Click the Account Number or Site Identifier to open the record.
Click the open in new tab icon next to a link to open it without leaving the exceptions screen.
Approving exceptions
In the Exception Type screen, tick one or more rows, and then click Approve. Approved exceptions are removed from the list and those accounts can proceed to invoicing.
Tip: It is best practice to investigate an account before approving. Often an account will have more than one exception type - open the account once and approve all relevant exceptions together rather than working through each type separately.
Exporting to Excel
Both the Summary view and the Detail view can be exported to Excel by clicking on the Excel icon.
